Almost One-Quarter of Wells Contaminated, Report Finds

By Ben Leach

More than one in five private wells across the United States contains at least one contaminant that poses a threat to human health, according to a comprehensive study released Friday.
In New Jersey, some wells had contaminants such as arsenic, mercury, nitrates and volatile organic compounds that were found in levels the government does not consider safe for drinking.

Mercury in Seafood: Is Fish Safe to Eat?

Health experts talk about the benefits of eating fish and shellfish – they are good sources of protein, low in saturated fat, and contain omega 3 fats essential to the body. Eating fish and shellfish may help to lower risk for heart disease and is important for the growth and development of infants and children. Unfortunately almost all seafood contains traces of toxins such as mercury, along with other environmental contaminants like cancer causing PCB’s (polycholorinated biphenyls) and dioxins.

Dying to be Light?

We all do a lot of things in the name of beauty, but would you pour laundry bleach on your face or smear arsenic (found in rat poison) on your body, in order to attain a lighter complexion? If both of these sound bizarre to you, it is what a lot of women are doing to themselves all in the name of beauty. I was recently inspired by an episode of the Tyra Banks show that focused on women who bleached their skin. Watching the show, I cringed at the measures these women underwent in order to achieve what they believed was a “better complexion”.

The Benefits Of Chelation Therapy

Chelation therapy is a treatment that is used to treat heavy metal poisoning. It most often involves the injection of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) - also refered to as a 'synthetic amino acid' - that binds with (chelates) heavy metals, which include iron, lead, mercury, cadmium, and zinc. The term ‘chelation’ comes from the Greek word ‘chele’ which means claw, referring to the way the chemical grabs onto these metals. EDTA is a man-made amino acid, which has a particular affinity for toxic metals such as mercury, cadmium, aluminium and lead.

WE LIVE in a chemical stew. So pervasive are the chemicals in the food we eat, in the products we use to keep our bodies, clothes, and houses clean, and in keeping our lawns manicured that it has become impossible to avoid them. We are surrounded by chemicals. Over 80,000 are in use and an additional 1,000-2,000 are introduced each year; however, only about 2 percent are tested by regulatory agencies for safety.

Mercury Contamination in High-Fructose Corn Syrup

By: Jonathan Sabar

Well, you know what they say about it..."
"What? That high-fructose corn syrup is made from corn, has the same calories as sugar and honey, and may be contaminated
with mercury?"

The Environmental Health Journal recently published a study (1) finding that 9 in 20 samples of high-fructose corn syrup they
tested were contaminated with mercury.

The Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy then did a study on their own and found that 17 out of 55 brand-name products

Dangerous Baby Products

To the editor:

1. Baby Products Contain Toxic Ingredients*

Although many baby products are touted as being "pure" and "gentle," dozens of top products contain cancer-causing chemicals. In fact, more than half of the products tested for a report released by the nonprofit Campaign for Safe Cosmetics contained dangerous 1,4-dioxane or formaldehyde, or both.
